Telehandler Certification Training

Telehandler forklifts have many trade names, such as Rough Terrain, Boom Lift, Gheil, Jlg, and Shooting Boom. Set as Class IIV, this lift type is recognized for its training and function, which differ from other lift types.

rough terrain

These lifts do not have a vertical mast like most warehouse forklifts and are typically used on construction sites where the ground is dirt or unpaved. These lifts raise materials to upper levels and have unique turning capabilities. Training on these lifts is specialized and requires specialized training. This class also covers the standard vertical mast rough terrain lift with larger tires and capacities.

Construction, landscape, roofing, and jobs that require the load to be extended are common sites for this type of lift. These lifts are often used like cranes, and loads are "slung." They have additional indicators for operators to use when lifting, and load charts show the variable capacity in the same manner used by crane operators.

In addition to the general lift and sling operations, attachments can be added to help with general construction tasks like scooping buckets, aerial work platforms, and boom jibs to expand the load further. During the training, operators learn to read the load chart and determine a safe capacity for the angle, distance, and attachment type. In addition to the general safety functions, the unique steering capabilities and the standard stability triangle that affects safety are also reviewed.
